Missions Fest - Go Library Project Update!

While surrounded by booths at Missions Fest from other noble organizations saving children from child prositution, feeding the hungry, healing lepors, our little Christian Library booth seemed insignificant; however as the days past we came to realize that it is God's spirit that spurs on such good work in this world and we actually help nurture people's relationship with God. A sort of behind the scenes work. Also, a few people needed prayer right then and there and as we prayed we were reminded of the lives we've touched in the store and that we are more than a bookstore. We are a ministry.

We were approached by the Steve Almond from the Light Magazine (previously BC Christian News) who was really interested in this model and asked us to write an article.

In addition we were inspired to explore the possibility of a mobile library, that is supplying and rotating books to churches, organizations like UGM, crisis pregnancy centre and more.

The feedback was positive and people left us their email to stay in touch as the Library progressess.

           HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

________________________________________________

January is a tough month, in the retail sector, and even tougher in the Christian book retail sector with people sporting their new tablets after Christmas, iphones and electronic devices making online downloads much easier.  We live in a high speed, I want NOW, world, including myself here. I admit it, I want a tablet too! :)

Instead of looking at Ebooks as the "enemy". We have began exploring this option for our customers and community not only for resale, but also to borrow. How can we integrate Ebooks with the launch of the New El-shaddai's Christian library?  Will it be possible for people to borrow Christian ebooks and resources online?  It is possible, but will take much resources to implement.

"God if it is your will, we know you will make a way. Your knowledge is far beyond what men now know and forever will know. We lift up this area to you and ask for your guidence. May we not forget about the personal contact and relationships we are made to cultivate and embrace in our lives"  Amen...

For starters, we have been attempting to contact Overdrive for over 2 months. Overdrive is the 3rd party company our local library uses to administer the logistics of lending out ebooks. I've called twice and filled out the online contact us form 3 times to no avail. As I spoke with the customer service representative there, she explained that there are many businesses interested in Overdrive and its expected that we may not receive a response.

Well, moving on then, we recently explored Google Ebooks which is integrated on our website today. However, its ALL google Ebooks and we are working on narrowing the selection so that only Christian Ebooks are available through our site.

If you do not have a fancy tablet, no worries, you can still access Ebooks with a FREE software by Adobe.  You can download it here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/?source=acromenu

I hope you found this helpful and we will continue to keep you posted.

Hi Readers!

Welcome to the El-Shaddai's Blog!

My name is Jo, one of the partners here at "the store". If you have visited during 2008 to 2010, then I have met you; otherwise, I hope to meet you soon.  For most of year 2011, I have been on maternity leave. Thank you  Mica, Debbie, Channa, Matt and Barton for all your hard dedicated work during this year.

Truly God has brought to us a uniquely gifted team. Some have stopped in and out, but their contributions will not be forgetten!

I'd like to personally thank all our shoppers as well, for supporting us! Without you, our store front will not exist and our physical location does serve many hurting people who walk in. Some come  in search for comfort while their loved one is in the hospital or enduring cancer treatment, others who are simply curious about God or already a Christian in search for tools to deepen their walk, and some who come in silence to reach out to a book for healing.

We dream that El-Shaddai's will be a place for people to reach out to and feel welcomed, not judged, totally accepted and free to find books, videos, or music to enrich their healing journey and/or deepen their walk with God.
